    Hello Tim,
very interesting article & video on forms & data gathering. Is the ability to gather data in this kind of format ONLY available in 8.0 Prof? I think you can make forms fillable in 7.0… and the form can be emailed… but the data won’t be gathered in CSV or XML formats?

Lastly, is it possible populate forms with existing data, then send out to be updated only? eg. could I fill in the form fields with a line from an excel table, so the recipient could see what info already existed for that particular case, and update only what they think needs updating? This would be an extremely valuable feature.

    thanks,
    Daphne

Yes you can do pretty much the same workflow in Acrobat 7, and you can save off the files as CSV. But, you do not have the auto field recognition, that is new in 8. And yes these are more of Acrobat Pro features. I will post an entry on how to use existing data to fill in the form next. but yes it can be done.

    Thanks for your comments!

Excellent, thanks for answering my question Tim! I look forward (A LOT!) to finding out how I can populate the forms with existing data. I just found out right now that our company purchased licences for Prof.8

Sorry, Tim, I missed your comment.
Right now the data I’d want to populate the forms with would be from excel. I could save as CSV if that helps. I’m not yet familiar with using XML.

Tim, I recently purchased Acrobat 8 Professional, my first Acrobat product. I am a full time law student and wasn’t sure when I would have time to learn how to use the software. What a relief to find your blog!

I wanted to take the time to thank you for all of your hard work and for making it easy for first time users to obtain top-notch training from your blog and from your Podcast on ITUNES.

    Thanks again,

    Dan

Thanks Dan for the props! I will hope to keep getting good content out to keep you moving forward. Acrobat is a really great tool, with a lot of features that are a bit hard to find some times.

    Thanks

    Tim,

Is there a limit to the number of forms you can collect and still be able to export the database to a csv file? I have about 200 or so forms collected, but when I try to export them I get a “cos document table full” message. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

    Thanks,
    Cathy

    Hello again Tim,
I wrote last fall asking if there is a way of populating forms with existing data (eg excel, access, or csv data). I’ve been checking hopefully but can’t see that info. Did I miss it, or is there any way I can convince you to do a new tutorial on it? It would be SO useful. The grid tutorial you just posted will be very helpful too, thanks.
    thanks,
    Daphne
