This is an update on the Adobe Reader vulnerability first discussed on the Adobe PSIRT blog on April 27 (“Potential Adobe Reader Issue”). All currently supported shipping versions of Adobe Reader and Acrobat (Adobe Reader and Acrobat 9.1, 8.1.4, and 7.1.1 and earlier versions) are vulnerable to this issue. Adobe plans to provide updates for all affected versions for all platforms (Windows, Macintosh and Unix) to resolve this issue. We are working on a development schedule for these updates and will post a timeline as soon as possible. We are currently not aware of any reports of exploits in the wild for this issue. To mitigate the issue disable JavaScript in Adobe Reader and Acrobat using the following instructions below:
1. Launch Acrobat or Adobe Reader.
2. Select Edit>Preferences
3. Select the JavaScript Category
4. Uncheck the ‘Enable Acrobat JavaScript’ option
5. Click OK
In addition, Adobe is in contact with Antivirus and Security vendors on this issue in order to ensure the security of our mutual customers.
Adobe is also currently investigating the issue posted on SecurityFocus as BID 34740.
We will continue to monitor this!

Adobe Customization Wizard, a free downloadable utility designed to help IT professionals take greater control of enterprise-wide deployments of Acrobat 9 and Reader 9, is available now on adobe.com. The wizard lets administrators customize the Acrobat installer and application features prior to deployment and provides a more intuitive graphical interface to the Windows Installer for Acrobat. There is a datasheet on adobe.com to learn how the Customization Wizard will save time and give you more control on your enterprise installs.
Please note that the Customization Wizard 9 only functions with the Acrobat 9 family of products. It is only available in English, but can be used to customize all language versions of Acrobat 9 and Reader 9.
Download the new Customization Wizard Here
This should help you customize the installer for Acrobat!

For all you form junkies out there, here is a quick tip on that sexy form layout that we all crave!
You can use grids to help position form fields precisely on a page. You can define the grid spacing, color, and position. You can also choose whether to have the boundaries of a form field snap to grid lines when you’re editing the form field. Grid lines don’t print.

I love to have dynamic content. I have often thought about doing more with a PDF file than documents, spreadsheets, and text. Now I can. In this article, I will show you how you can amaze and dazzle your friends, or win a bar bet, by adding cool movies to your PDF’s. As some of you know, you can add links, pictures, 3D… inside of a PDF file, however, I want to expand to digital learning, cool movies, just explore my creativity! (Hey, I work at Adobe, I get all the toys for free! )

A question from Liz made me think, humm, what’s for dinner, whoops, got off track there, actually the question was: “I understood the lesson you gave on creating forms and then distributing them. But what if my organization wants to create a form and post it to our Web site for people to download and complete, then mail back? Is there no way to do that? Must it be distributed via e-mail by me, the document/form creator?” This is a great question, and one that does not get enough discussion, so let’s go for it! Read the rest of this entry »

Steps to adjust Acrobat Line Merge settings for PDF creation from AutoCAD
I’ve was recently reading on a few competitors web sites that Acrobat can not do Lines Merge and Lines Overwrite when publishing PDF from AutoCAD. Well this is false and we’ve put together step by step instructions on how this setting can be adjusted for PDF being created from AutoCAD using Acrobat 8 Professional, there is a link to a sample DWG file and the resulting variations in PDF output depending on what setting is chosen (Lines Merge or Lines Overwrite). This isn’t currently documented as part of the Acrobat 8 Pro help files, so we’re providing this a tip and trick for all of you out there, enjoy.
Read on for the instructions.
